Testing Joost

Bingo. After some days waiting I finally got a invitation for joost. It is not like I was drooling for one or something like that. I was only curious. Let’ s get to it. The program is quite simple and has no configuration for what I can see. Even a drunken monkey could install it and put it to work. Im talking about Mac OS X. I suppose in MSWindos is equally stupid. No client for Linux. Bad, bad program. No cookie for you.

The program uses an OSD that resembles the VLC one. As I said, nice and not complicated.

And now comes the bad news. As I was using it I could hear the CPU fan of my macbook revving up. Guess what, the program is using 50% of CPU. Not bad.

Now Im really pissed. If I have a laptop i is precisely because it is silent and has a battery that last at least some hours. Why would I like to run something like this and burn my balls watching TV on my couch?. What I cannot understand is that a computer with 2 Gz core duo and 2 Gb of RAM pukes so miserably to run this program. I confess that I have no idea . Maybe it is the XULrunner engine, maybe it is the Intel video chip (that we all know it is crappy). Normally this laptop plays Xvid with videolan using 10% of CPU as an average, so it is not simply a problem of video output. The same happens with Youtube player. Some minutes of playing are enough to warm the CPU up.

What Im trying to say is that I do not understand why some programs use so much CPU to do things that are apparently not so demanding. Maybe Im missing something here or maybe it is simply that people do not care if some program takes over CPU to do a trivial thing.

Yeah. I know. For those of you who saw the Skype icon. THAT is one of those programs as well. I do not run it all the time, but I have observed too that completely screws ACPI sleep times.

Bottomline. I will never use joost in the laptop.

A este paso aparte de un macintosh vamos a necesitar un DeLorean para entregar los trabajos a tiempo.

Hijo, no sabes la razon que tiene. A mi me saldria mas a cuenta directamente crearme un agujero de gusano. Lo que pasa es que si hiciese los trabajos antes de que me los pidiese el jefe eso crearia una paradoja temporal y las consecuencias serian desastrosas.

No se si os pasara a todos o que. Pero en el ultimo update de Mac OS para mi macbook, que incluía acojonantes novedades como el soporte de iTunes para iPhone (maldita la falta que me hace) también incluía una actualización de firmware para la unidad óptica. La actualización bien, gracias. Pero ahora cada vez que arranco me sale el update intentando volver a meter el firmware. Supongo que cargándome la aplicación en /applications/utilities debería dejar de darme la lata.

Punto negativo para OS X. Te quedan dos telediarios en cuando solucione el tema de l EFI. De todas formas es raro porque no veo que sea un problema general. Igual es algo que hice durante el update. Go figure

Vuelta y vuelta

Pasos para adquirir bronceado estúpido

1) Ir a la piscina de 12 a 13 horas durante un par de semanas

2) Nadar durante 1 hora solo estilo crawl

3) Vivir el resto del tiempo en un zulo sin ventanas y salir a a calle ya cuando es de noche

Tremendo escándalo. Se ha demostrado que gran parte de los temas del último disco de Jean Michel Jarre “Téo&Téa” son refritos procedentes de las melodías que vienen por defecto en la caja de ritmos Roland MC808. Según se deduce por esto, el artista francés se limitó a coger melodías pregrabadas de ése aparato para colocarlas como temas suyos dentro su último álbum. No soy programador pero entiendo bastante bien el problema de las patentes de software y como son capaces de convertir lo fácil en difícil. Si no se lo creen , pasen y vean.

Although your page it is not precisely the worst, I cannot say the same for those of your “friends”. Gosh, their backgrounds and color schemes are the material migraines are made of. Not the mention all the pain and suffering you inflict on the poor rendering engine of the browser. CSS?, What is that??!!. Luminance contrast??. A joke!!.
